Last April, we announced that we had taken over the neighboring suites of our building to bring you music camps over the summer, music lessons and a brand new expanded retail space! We also added another name to the fold to better communicate the services we offer: Music Makers. Here’s the story of how the expansion came about.
Where did all this start?
Colorado Institute of Musical Instrument Technology–what we call CIOMIT–came into existence 17 years ago in Castle Rock, Colorado. Since then it’s seen a lot of changes and growth. In addition to being a trade school for musical instrument repair, CIOMIT operated as a fully functioning instrument repair shop. Along the way it took on the task of providing more services including Instrument Rentals, Online Repair Classes, Local School Partnerships and Instrument Sales. Now we are adding on the exciting opportunity to gift the skill and love of playing music to more people–MUSIC LESSONS! We also needed more space for students of the Institute and outgrew our retail square footage.
Why Music Lessons?
Music has shouldered much adversity through all of time. With each generation it changes and innovates, and as it’s passed to the next generation it brings with it hope, healing, and resilience. We believe music is a vessel of unity and change. For this reason, we consider it our mission at CIOMIT to advocate for music and music quality.
That’s why we repair instruments and teach others to do so. That’s why we try to make acquiring a musical instrument accessible through our rental program. That’s why we are launching Music Lessons in Castle Rock, Colorado!
We have worked to create music lessons that not only facilitate learning but also foster a sense of community and enjoyment. Our goal is to make music accessible to as many students as possible, providing them with a source of fun and relief from the pressures of daily life. We continuously explore creative avenues to enhance participation in music education and strengthen community bonds.
We are committed to designing environments that deliver top tier education but also inspire and excite students. Our approach emphasizes hands-on, interactive learning experiences that bring music to life and encourage students to explore musical concepts beyond traditional methods. Through innovative teaching strategies and a focus on active participation, we aim to spark a lifelong love of music in students while equipping them with the skills and knowledge to thrive as Music Makers.
So, what’s with the name change?
Let’s address the elephant in the room: ‘Colorado Institute of Musical Instrument Technology’ is a mouthful, and ‘CIOMIT’ is hard to pronounce (it’s ‘see-oh-mit’, but we’ve heard ‘coy-mit’, ‘sigh-oh-mit’, ‘coe-mit’, and probably many others).
‘Colorado Institute of Musical Instrument Technology’ and ‘CIOMIT’ very much represent the instrument repair trade school. It’s a school name and a school acronym. It has a long standing reputation of high quality education and high quality repairs. However, as the business grew not all of our offerings made sense with a trade school name. We wanted to have an identity that mirrored our vision and belief of the importance of music AND the people that make music.
That’s how we landed on Music Makers!
We believe the world needs the music that each person can uniquely make. Music does not exclude or discriminate. Music is for everyone. We are all Music Makers! Our role as a music shop and studio is to support each individual and our community–Castle Rock, Colorado and beyond–in their journey to make music.
We repair your instrument so that as you play music it’s the most enjoyable experience possible.
We help you find which instrument that’s right for your music personality–one of quality in craftsmanship and sound.
Now, we teach you how to play your instrument(s) so that you can continue to learn and grow in ways that help you express your musical style and flair.
We do all of this with the hopes that we will create a community of world-changers, hope-givers, healers, and unifiers by being a community of Music Makers.
